Assessment & Reporting

At Cobden School, we want parents and whānau to clearly understand how their child is progressing and how they can support learning at home. As part of the Ministry of Education's refreshed curriculum, schools across New Zealand are introducing new ways of assessing and reporting achievement in English and Mathematics & Statistics. While these are the first learning areas to change, all other curriculum areas will continue as usual until national updates are introduced.

From 2026, you'll notice some changes to your child's English and Maths reports. Reports will use nationally consistent progress descriptors, include a clear explanation of your child's strengths and next learning steps, show information from classroom learning and assessment tools, provide a simple graph showing progress over time, and include attendance information. These changes are designed to give families a clearer, more consistent picture of how children are learning and growing.
